Hiking Mount Monadnock

Within walking distance of Monadnock State Park, Camp Wanocksett is a great place to make your base camp as your Scouts prepare the hike the most climbed mountain in the world! Mount Monadnock stands at an elevation of 3,165 ft. and has dozens of hiking trails for all abilities, year-round.

Fall Foliage

Are members of your group photographers? Spend a weekend at camp enjoying the fall foliage and taking pictures.

Winter Sports

Bring your own snow shoes, or rent ours! Camp Wanocksett has hundreds of acres where you can enjoy a winter snow shoe hike. Visitors can also travel to the Monadnock State Park to enjoy over 8 miles of cross-country ski and show shoe trails. Nearby Windblown Ski Area offers almost 25 miles of trails to enjoy, and Granite Gorge offers just over 7.5 miles of trails. Both offer cross country and show shoe rentals.

Skiing and Snowboarding

Camp Wanocksett is fortunate to have a number of ski areas within a short driving distance. All offer rentals and lessons, and many offer group rates as well as tubing parks. Enjoy a day of skiing or riding and return to a warm cabin for some fellowship and good food that evening. Scouts can work on their Snow Sports Merit Badge or Snow Ski and Board Sports Belt Loop.

Water Activities

Camp Wanocksett offers a limited number of canoes and kayaks for rent during the spring and fall. Groups can enjoy the tranquility of Thorndike Pond and paddle to Sagi Island for a quick hike. All groups must comply with Safety Afloat and/or Safe Swim Defense guidelines.

Advancement Hikes

Work on rank advancement identifying plants and trees while taking a short hike. A 5 mile loop is available by traveling around Thorndike Pond on low traveled public roads, and a shorter loop is available at the Gilson Pond area of Monadnock State Park.
